THE VILLA

Villa Medicea ‘La Ferdinanda’, built in 1596 according to a design by Bernardo Buontalenti, overlooks the hills of Montalbano, already dear to the Etruscans. Commissioned by Ferdinando I de' Medici as a hunting lodge, it is known for its “Hundred Chimneys”. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013, the villa boasts frescoes by Passignano and Poccetti, evidence of Galileo Galilei and a rotisserie designed by Leonardo da Vinci. The austere architecture is lightened by elegant details, such as the entrance staircase. On the piano nobile, the rooms of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, enriched with frescoes, preserve the unique charm of Medici history. Today it is a charming location for events.

THE FARM

The vineyards range from the hills of Carmignano, beloved by Leonardo da Vinci and the Medici, to those of Chianti Montalbano. Each variety is planted after a thorough study of the soil. Carmignano DOCG, among the great Tuscan red wines, boasts ancient origins. The history of Carmignano DOCG wine begins with the Etruscan people, who already produced wine in this area. Proof of this comes from the discovery of wine vases inside some Etruscan tombs and the assignment by Caesar to his veterans, between 50 and 60 B.C., of certain lands between the Arno and Ombrone rivers. From the ancient Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino varieties, hand-picked from the historic olive groves of the Villa dei Cento Camini, a rare and precious oil. Each bottle celebrates the Medici heritage and the excellence of a rare terroir, guardian of centuries of history and passion for quality.
